http://player.youku.com/embed/XNzI4NTQ3NDg4It would be nice to think the boats were laden with something suitably festive – if not gold, frankincense and myrrh, then perhaps a cargo of mince pies. But common sense suggested they were carrying fish. I suspect the life of a fisherman on the Swahili Coast does not extend to Christmas frippery.
On Christmas Eve, we boarded a small motor launch to explore the Wami River, a few kilometres south of the lodge. Slumbering hippos raised goggle eyes and twitching ears at our intrusion, a croc was submerged among the mangrove roots, and white bell-pull tails betrayed the colobus monkeys in the canopy. Birds, meanwhile, were everywhere: lilac-breasted rollers flashing azure wings in tumbling display flights; ground hornbills stalking through the long grass; a bateleur eagle riding the day’s first thermal.
Port Elizabeth is a fairly small city by most standards and it’s around 80 Kms from Oyster Bay, so most places you’d want to visit in the area can be reached from both locations. Your next move will depend on how much you like the outdoors compared to cities. Whichever way, make sure you visit the Addo Elephant park and Shamwari game reserve for a bit of a safari and the big five.
Colourful and interesting, to say the least! The West Coast is also known for the character of its people, who are renowned as story tellers and cooks. Even the language they speak is unique in South Africa. West Coast cuisine has a particular character based on its largely sea-based economy and the rich cultural heritage of its people, a mixture of Dutch, German and Khoi.
There is a friggin big tree there in case you’re interested in seeing an 800 year-old Outeniqua Yellowwood. It is also a beautiful area for hiking similar to the Knysna forests. After Plett you may want to look into Storms River mouth, but I’ve only been there twice many years ago.
With the lodge arranged in its own lush forest, complete with giant baobabs, the wildlife continued to claim our attention. Not big game, perhaps, but birds – including an exquisite pygmy kingfisher at the pool – butterflies, lizards, elephant-shrews and the resident troop of blue monkeys that sneaked on to verandas to snatch unguarded biscuits.

On game drives, we spied the rare Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, with its racing-bike handlebar horns; watched giraffes lope across the plain; and caught up with a herd of buffalo that sniffed at us suspiciously before melting into the trees. On foot – setting out early to avoid the heat – Isack turned bush detective to reveal the pad marks of a hyena, the clotted droppings of wildebeest and the skull of a baboon, crushed by the jaws of a leopard.
After champagne cocktails we settled down to a Christmas dinner of “African” turkey – the same as the supermarket variety, as far as I could tell – accompanied by the slightly less traditional coconut and banana soup, with an impressive Christmas cake to follow. Back at the lodge, we found the restaurant and walkways decked – not quite with boughs of holly, but with fairy lights draped around the palm fronds.

Despite its winning geography, Saadani has never quite made it onto Tanzania’s A-list of destinations. But being a little off the beaten safari track suited us perfectly. Perhaps because this newish reserve does not yet offer the Serengeti’s wall-to-wall wildlife; and the beach, its breakers sepia with silt from the nearby Wami River, doesn’t quite match Zanzibar’s picture-postcard perfection.
Soon after arriving at what was then known as Port Natal in April 1824, Fynn and some of his men went to find the great King of the amaZulu, Shaka at his Royal place kwaBulawayo (not to be confused with the city of the same name in Zimbabwe), some 120 miles away. The wind rustling through the mangroves and the sound of birds added to a sense of calm and mindfulness during early morning meditation. The “coconut and aloe island ritual” began with a dried coconut exfoliation, and ended in a relaxing organic coconut oil massage. Treatments took place on side-by-side beds that meant that we didn’t have to be apart.
Johannesburg is known in English as the “City of Gold” and in the Nguni languages as “eGoli” and in the Sotho languages as “Gauteng”, both names being synonymous with the English, as it is the centre of the gold mining industry.
There are also several hotels close to the airport, including the luxury Sun International within the airport complex itself which offers a 24-hour service for meals and checking in and out. Gold was discovered there in 1886 and very quickly Johannesburg began to grow from, dusty mining camp to the huge metropolis it is today. Tambo to Sandton takes just a little more than 15 minutes on the Gautrain.
On one kayaking trip, we were circled by bottlenose dolphins that appeared almost as if the hotel had instructed them to come and find us. There are plenty more activities designed for loved-up couples. We opted for the “Art of Seduction” bath which was filled with sweet-smelling frangipani flowers, and came with a bottle of champagne, chocolate dipped strawberries, massage oil and candle on the side – it was as cheesy as it sounds, but indulgent nonetheless.

” Let them try, I thought. “Don’t go far,” called Nick, “there are lions about. This Christmas tale has a coda. I wandered out of the circle of firelight down to the surf, ghosts crabs scuttling across the wet sand at my feet. But knowing that Zanzibar lay just over the water, and having come all this way, we’d elected to extend the holiday by a few days and take a peek at the fabled spice isle. Yes, Saadani had done us proud. They’ll never manage all of me.
The world’s second highest waterfall can be found in the Drakensberg I had also watched a falcon gracefully flying around between the hills, seen quite a few rabbits and “dassies” (don’t know their English name) and monkeys and I had had a swim in a natural pool below a fair-sized waterfall. If you like waterfalls and little mountain streams, the Drakensberg is a must!

Indian ocean honeymoon retreats
The Four Seasons hotel matched our requirement for reliable five-star luxury. We would embark on the Ultimate Honeymoon. But this was the time for a blow-out. My ambition was for it to be all that those magazines promised it to be. Our holidays hitherto had involved sight-seeing, guide books in hand, on a budget.
A four-course dinner of bouillabaisse and assorted local seafood was more impressive. We arrived early to find a waiter planting sparkling tealights around the pool, while naff pan pipes wafted out of our sound system (we swiftly plugged in our iPod). Most memorable was a candlelit dinner on the terrace of our villa.

The first diamond diggers sifted stone tools out of the terraced river gravels and the steel mouldboard plough tore them from the topsoil of the new maize fields; in a limestone quarry miners’ dynamite exposed the fossil skull of a hominid child that played there more than a million years ago; a clay furnace, once stoked with goatskin bellows, has been excavated near where the coke ovens of a steelworks smoke today; and the stone circles stacked round living sites by people of the Uitkomst culture, the first men to use iron weapons and tools in their onslaught on the environment, have given place to the city of Gold – iGoli, as the blacks named Johannesburg.
At high tide we splashed in the waves – as warm and salty as mulligatawny soup. During the hotter hours, we lazed around the pool, my daughter learning backward somersaults from her cousins, while the older and less athletic among us retreated to the loungers with Scrabble, books and occasional sustenance from the bar. Between excursions, however, we simply hung out at the lodge. Our return drive passed dazzling white saltpans, where flamingos swept their upside-down heads through the shallows.
The centre of the route is the ever-popular Wilderness on the mouth of the Kaaimans River with a string of lovely lakes to the east – the Langvlei, Rondevlei, Swartvlei and Ruigtevlei. It lies in the area between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, and is verdant, with rainfall all year. These lakes stretch almost to the next popular part of the route, the scenic and historic town of Knysna.
I must admit that I only know Plett for its beaches, but just for my love of beaches and “birds”, I would gladly spend 2-3 days in Plett. Your next stop must be Plettenberg Bay. It’s only about 60Kms from Knysna and with its stunning beaches, Plett is one of my favourite bird-watching destinations Those would be the bikini-clad type of birds, of course.
From Mossel Bay, I’d go straight to Knysna (+/- 120Kms), although there are a couple of beautiful places along the way, so it depends on your time and budget. Mossel Bay is around 400Kms from Cape Town. Cape Town waters are pretty cold due to the Atlantic ocean, so if you want to spend some time on the beach, don’t even bother before Mossel Bay. However, I would save my beach-time for Plettenberg bay and Jeffreys bay.
With a safari vehicle to ourselves, we’d been able to indulge all the running family arguments – from meal times to Test Match scores – but somehow Isack had kept the show on the road, patiently pointing out the wildlife and explaining the local culture. Arriving four days before Christmas, we had already enjoyed many of Saadani’s activities. It wasn’t all indolence, though. Isack Mnyangabe was the guide assigned the dubious privilege of herding our motley crew around.
In my opinion it is beautiful and I can spend many hours just enjoying the beauty in a small area. Many stunning restaurants on the waterfront and make sure you have a couple of drinks on a sun-downer trip on the lagoon. Try to spend at least 2 days in Knysna. The town itself is now well developed and has many activities for tourist.

Part of that uniqueness comes from the large concentration of people of Indian descent living there. After breakfast, we retreated to the deck for presents. Stockings had already been opened -trictly a pre-breakfast routine – producing seashells, seedpods and other tokens from the beach. Now came the main gifts, restricted in size and value by prior agreement to the likes of water pistols, fridge magnets and swanee whistles. Agatha Christie also visited the capital. Christie was equally complimentary about Agaete, the pretty north-western port. Most of the Bushmen have now been moved out of the Reserve – often forcibly, though the government denies this. They were transported to camps outside the game reserve: places like New Xade, awash with disease, prostitution and the cheapest and deadliest booze. Their character as a people is being relentlessly destroyed there.

Leopard Tracking and Research at Phinda
As we left camp after coffee and muffins over the embers of last nights campfire there was a stark air of excitement as we set out with our Specialist Guide into the African Bush. Every now and then our guide would stop to check the telemetry kit to see if we were headed in the right direction. We felt as if we were sneaking up on them, once we knew their rough coordinates it was down to our tracker to pinpoint them, which was no easy feat as these cats love the thick bush that camouflaged them well.
I was amazed that he would be impressed by something so small. He was busy taking photographs of a couple of guinifowl and was amazed that we were so close to “nature”. During my first walk I had sat on the top of a little hill to watch the sunrise and had a deer walking around a couple of meters from me.
De Beers, anxious about its reputation, has sold out to a British outfit called Gem Diamonds. Gem Diamonds have cooperated with a South African aid agency, Vox United, to dig a water hole for the Bushmen; but the government has made it difficult to dig more, and has done nothing to provide the Bushmen with water. The basic problem is that their traditional lands lie in the middle of the world’s richest diamond field.

Replete with food and festive spirit, our deckchairs sank a little deeper than usual into the sand. Our African Christmas ended on the beach. Nick, the lodge manager, strummed his guitar – barely audible above the breakers – while sparks flew from the big driftwood fire and shooting stars slipped across the tropical heavens. We belted out a few carols over the cheeseboard, while bushbabies romped across the roof and Kissie, the local genet, slunk around in search of leftovers.Reliable online booking portals featuring several Southern African hotel choices, reliable car hire and local day tours are at hand to provide a simple and handy booking system. The Garden Route
From Cape Town along the coast to the Tsitsikamma Forest, this 600-kilometre stretch of small towns, wineries, farms and sea villages has been a traveller’s delight for more than a century. Take your time, soak in the scenery, stay over in a guest-house, enjoy the cuisine and let South African hospitality take over.
If you like hiking, spend time in Knysna. I grew up in Knysna and though it is a much bigger and commercialised town now, it is still a stunning place to visit. When I was a little boy, our family got lost on a hiking trail and at some point we had to cut through an immensely dense fern growth. Being too young to know the dangers, I thought it was the most amazing thing because we were walking (or crawling) on top of these ferns probably 1 meter or so above the ground and ever so often I would see our little fox terrier down on the ground looking up at us. The Knysna forest has an amazing variety of plants and trees and on many of the hiking trails you will constantly be covered by a huge tree-top covering.

So if your idea of a perfect vacation is good weather, varied activities and places of interest, accommodation in high standard luxury safari hotels and lodges while enjoying excellent food and some of the best wines in the world then South Africa is just the place for you! Like Cape Town, Johannesburg has many venues of historical importance and is an excellent springboard for your trip further afield in the Continent. The game viewing areas of South Africa are some of the best in Africa and if desired can be smoothly integrated into an itinerary although it is not imperative to do so to get the best out of a visit to South Africa.
Our Ocean View Villa got things off to a promising start – spacious, luxurious, with his-and-hers basins, a generous bath, a shower on the back patio and a plunge pool on the terrace. Champagne and springy macaroons greeted us upon arrival so we were already feeling thoroughly spoilt. From the sun loungers in our garden, we could hear the waves crashing on the coral reef.
Finally the collar was replaced, the team jumped back in the vehicle and we pulled away a few yards to watch the cat’s recovery. All the time it’s vital signs we constantly monitored, along with (of course) it’s level of consciousness! It was intriguing to watch them collect DNA, blood samples and tests to establish the overall fitness of the cat.
This relatively little-known national park, just across the water from Zanzibar, is unusual in offering the twin safari attractions of bush and beach in a single setting. Behind our chalet was wild African savannah, home to lions and elephants; on our doorstep the Indian Ocean, with its long beaches, coral reefs and dhows.
Saadani seemed tailor-made for the challenge. The pitfalls loomed large; the location would have to be just right.
The lodge also houses two giant event tepees, set in the wonderful seclusion of the original Talton House kitchen-garden. The Bushmen’s main borehole was concreted up by the Botswana army some years ago. I’ve seen it for myself. It’s hard to think of a greater obscenity in a desert. The pipe that should be gushing water is blocked and full of sand, and scorpions scuttle round the cracked, dry basin. Many of the staff are of Bushman origin, and Wilderness Safaris which runs it offers guided walks “where guests gain life-changing insights into the unique culture of this fascinating people”. The Kalahari Plains Camp in the central Botswana desert is a great place to have a bush holiday. The Botswana government gave Wilderness Safaris permission to dig boreholes for water, which supply a pleasant swimming-pool. But the government prevents the Bushmen of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve from digging for water. The local Bushmen have been getting some fairly life-changing insights themselves.
It had a cinema room with popcorn for the kids and was just tastefully done. It’s an old, colonial-style building right on the beach with beautiful views.

Thus, on Boxing Day, we crammed into a tiny aircraft on Saadani’s dusty airstrip and made the 15-minute hop over the waves. Far from the tourist hotspots, it was just the spot for that post-festive torpor. From Zanzibar airport, a half-hour taxi ride took us to Unguja Lodge on the south-west coast.
If the airline is not able to fly me as booked, will I have to buy another ticket and claim a refund? I booked a cheap flight on Kenya Airways to South Africa. In the interim, though, it is also booking passengers on its partners, Air France and KLM. Kenya Airways insists its operations will get back to normal quickly. So you might find yourself rebooked via Paris or Amsterdam. No, though that option may remain open to you. However, it is peak holiday season in northern Europe, and therefore empty seats are not easy to find.
Many Namibian hotels and airlines have now slashed prices by half to at least attract some local or regional tourists. Yet the World Cup hosts believe future visitors will venture beyond South Africa’s borders. “Next year I will bring the family and explore. “This is soccer, a guy thing,” said Slovenian fan Robert Langerholz.
South Africa and particularly the city of Cape Town, is totally different from all its African neighbouring countries. The South African climate is very mild, pleasant in summer and autumn. Some parents prefer not to take their kids to countries on the Asian and African continents on account of the hot climates and infections. In Cape Town the weather is even rather cool in spring and in winter one can see snow on some mountains. But South Africa is excluded from this list – no wonder that around the world calls Cape Town the “Tourist Mecca”. As in the southern hemisphere, the seasons of the year are opposite to the northern hemisphere and European seasons. The country resembles Europe, in many aspects.
On my second visit to Oyster Bay Lodge I arrived a couple of hours too early, so I went for a walk on the beach and I was reminded of what a beautiful area this is. Many year ago I used to go spear fishing in Oyster Bay, +/- 120Kms from Plett and only a couple of kilometers from Jeffrey’s Bay (world famous surfing destination) and recently I developed a website for Oyster Bay Lodge.

As you trundle through the park on your night safari in South Africa, the air is filled with the calls and echoes of the myriad species of park animals heading to the waterholes. For at least one day in the year everyone can rejoice. It feels good to be a part of something that transcends colours, creeds, hot and cold, north and south. We all love to drape tiny, sparkly lights into the trees in the garden; candles flicker on the table; glittering jewellery given as gifts; the glint of sunshine on the spray of the wave crashing on rocks. And somehow that’s right.
Do your own research about Durban. Enough on that, from Durban I would rent a car and travel up to Jo’burg, with a 3-5 day stop in the Drakensberg. As much as I loved Durban many years ago, I personally would not spend any more time there. Beautiful beaches, hot waters and hot weather almost all year long, but… I would rather go up north for some scuba diving in Sodwana. From Port Elizabeth, I would fly up to Jo’burg and head out of the country, or if your time/budget allows, jump on a plane to Durban and work your way up to Jo’burg.
Of course, there’s plenty of sand to choose from too. However, the area is greener than you’d imagine. Next to Maspalomas’s golf course is its botanical garden. Birthdays, weddings, hen or stag dos, mini-festivals – whatever the occasion, the in-place is outside. Campsites and other venues are cottoning on to this trend and now offer exclusive hire of their sites for larger events and gatherings. Unsurprisingly then, many of us now opt to mark a special occasion with a big camp-out.
And, in truth, there were more than three. Three dhows, to be precise – a kilometre or so offshore and heading north. A sweep of my binoculars from our beachfront chalet revealed a scattered flotilla silhouetted against the dawn, all plying a homeward course from the night’s fishing. I saw three ships come sailing in, on Christmas day in the morning.

Prawn fishermen from the village waded into the shallows to cast their nets, disturbing clouds of terns from the exposed sandbanks. A tree-hide overlooking a small pool behind the lodge also offered a shaded retreat, attracting – among other thirsty wildlife – argumentative baboons and a well-drilled troop of banded mongooses. When the tide rolled out, exposing rippled mudflats, we went beachcombing, finding coconut shells, sand dollars and wave-sculpted driftwood.
I spent a couple of days in the Drakensberg with a friend once and on the first morning I went for a walk before sunrise. When I got back to the camp a couple of hours later, my friend had woken up and was standing at the side of the tent and waved for me to be quiet.

South Africa will host the FIFA World Cup from June 11 to July 11 which will draw soccer fans to the country, but even for those not interested in the sport, safari companies and hotels are putting together packages to lure tourists. And another thing to bear in mind is that because the size of safari camps and lodges in southern Africa, tend to be of a smaller more intimate size, it is necessary to book well in advance, particularly if you plan to travel from June through September. Local tourism is highest in December during summer school vacation so expect holiday surcharges, crowded beaches and limited availability throughout.
It is definitely worth putting the effort in though, because you will be rewarded with sights of the Big Five – not to mention other animals – waking up for the day too. Even if you aren’t used to going on this kind of holiday, you will soon fall into the pattern of watching big game and staying in one area all the time.
The Pilanesberg Game Reserve is extremely beautiful, with rolling hills and even an extinct volcano making up the reserve. Thick vegetation contrasts sparse brown grassy fields, where herds of zebra and various species of antelope can be seen in their numbers, and tall giraffes stalk along the horizon, a picturesque setting for South Africa safari holidays.
We were very fortunate that our stay coincided with one of the leopards’ collars to be replaced. This specialist safari offers a fabulous opportunity to gain an insight into the research carried out at Phinda. We shadowed the team as they lured the cat to a specific area with raw meat before they sedated it, carried out into the open away from the thicket bush where the vets had a 20 minute window of safety to take physical measurements. The team track the movements of the collared Leopards in the region. Recording their habits, frequent haunts and ultimately building a profile of behavior of these elusive animals.

Countries in Latin America, particularly Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama, where the U. dollar goes a long way also offer bargains and airlines are adding flights to these countries. And you wouldn’t be wrong! Surely tinsel, angels and carols, let alone Santa in all his red and white clothing, have no place in this land of wild animals, birds and sunshine? Add Christmas into the equation and the picture becomes a bit skewed. Say Safari in South Africa and one immediately thinks of hot, dusty plains filled with Mopani trees.
If you can spend a day or two at an altitude in between your home and your destination, you will find it much easier to adjust when you reach your final altitude. This effectively breaks down your adjustment into two stages, and you will find each one much easier to get over than the entire change would be at one time. Allow Your body to Get used to the Situation Gradually – Acclimatization
The ideal way to prepare yourself for an extended stay at high altitude in Africa or anywhere else is to make the acclimatization process as gradual as possible.
At around 9:30 in the morning travellers return to their lodgings to rest up from the game-drive and to have a full morning meal. When you are planning to go on holidays South Africa on safari, wildlife should be on your list of things to see in the continent. Some camps and lodges are located within the game reserves. During rest time in the middle of the day when it is much too hot to be out in the sun travelers have the opportunity to sit on their own verandas and observe the animals that are brave enough to venture out into the heat of the mid-afternoon. The best countries for wildlife safaris are Kenya and Tanzania, both in East Africa.
There are over 2000 White Rhinos in Kruger National Park. The White Rhino has a broad flat mouth to feed off large quantities of grass. The White Rhino is far larger than Black Rhino, behind the elephant it is probably the most massive remaining land animal in the world, along with the Indian Rhinoceros and some male hippopotamuses. It has a hump above the shoulders and a fold of skin at the lower shoulders.
No snow gently falling, no fireplaces filled with roaring, log fires, mulled wine and frost, but wide, blue skies filled with sunshine, white sandy beaches with warm water lapping the shores and photographs filled with – you’ve guessed it – tinsel, angels and carols!
One of the most popular types of holiday in the country is a safari, but if you have never been on one before you may wonder whether it will be right for you. South Africa is a country that has plenty to offer if you are thinking of taking a holiday there.

The early settlers were a mix of nationalities including British, French, German, Malaysian and Khoisan, and this diverse mix is reflected in the architectural styles that make up the city, from classic Dutch style to German Baroque and French Neo-classical to English Regency. Settled by the Dutch in 1652, who used it as a base for the Dutch East India Trading Company, it’s the oldest city in South Africa. Cape Town is now a cosmopolitan city brimming with history and colour.
Lions are not the only species that you’ll find here, but there are plentiful leopards, cheetahs and the hyena, that roam about dexterously in the central region of the park. The far north region of Kruger Park is a crowd puller because its the abode of some hard to find animal species like, the knocking sand frog, the stocky bush-pig, and the shy Sharpe’s Grysbok. The main ‘drawing card’ of Kruger Park is the central region because majority of lion population is perched at this very portion of the park.Although there are many other places worth visiting, these two are my favourites. For a bit of wine tasting, do a 1 or 2 day wine trip to Stellenbosch or something around Cape Town and then head off to Mossel Bay (personally I would spend 1-2 days in Hartenbos, just outside of Mossel Bay). Most international flights in South Africa arrive or depart in Johannesburg or Cape Town and I would recommend you arriving in Cape Town and departing from Jo’burg. I believe anybody coming to visit South Africa should try to spend a couple of days in Knysna and the Drakensberg.
Other big cats fare slightly better, with leopards being in comparative abundance throughout the country – especially in the southern cape and far north. Likewise, lions have had an equally endangered past in South Africa, and are now almost exclusively found in conservation areas. Cheetahs are a bit rarer, and can be found mainly in the far north – with a top speed of nearly 100kmph, spotting one of these is a real highlight, if you are lucky. The best way of catching the big cats is to take a day exploring a conservation area – seeing them in their (almost) natural habitat is worth the price of a holiday in South Africa alone!
It is, however, only a couple of minutes drive from Jeffrey’s bay, St Francis and Humansdorp if you’re looking for shops or more people. Oyster Bay is very secluded and is ideal for people who really want to get away into nature. I had only spent a couple of hours there, but the impression I get is that you can spend many hours of hiking and not get bored.
The aircraft was the same type as Air France Flight 447, which crashed in the Atlantic on June 1 last year. The cause of that crash has not been firmly identified. SURVIVOR BOY
“He was, of course, after the disaster he experienced and the grave loss of his parents and brother, happy to see two familiar faces at his bedside,” Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen told a news conference. The boy had suffered leg fractures but was in a stable condition, doctors at a Tripoli hospital said.
My time in the lap of luxury had come to an end. Breakfast was yet another magnificent display of good food, a huge selection of tasty things to choice from. After a good night’s sleep I took some time to enjoy the luxuries of my suite. “Farewell until next time” I said! Top quality bath products in a steaming bubble bath had me lulled to a light sleep. I had a plane to catch to get me back home by the evening. A luxury skin lotion pampered my body and prepared me for a new day.
The budget is a main factor to consider because safari holidays are no joke. There are lots of preparations that need to be done. Moreover, most of them are so different from the normal coastal area trips, that you will wonder how such differences can occur.
The Bushmen are some of the world’s most ecologically attuned people. Once, on a hunting trip with a small group of Bushmen in neighbouring Namibia, I saw how careful they were about the way they killed their prey, using a minimum of arrows daubed with natural poison.
A year of constructing a wedding day for 90 guests was like taking on a part-time job – although one in which we had no experience – and after the big day, we’d be in need of some serious R, R and R (rest, relaxation and romance). It had to involve sun, luxury and minimal exertion. It was an essential part of the wedding planning.
After the drive we all gathered for dinner on the deck and shared our excitement of our days sightings. My 300 zoom lens allowed some good close up photos. The meal was exquisite and the company was fun, drinks flowed until late in the evening.
Maybe, one day, but this definitely convinced us to come explore now,” the American, from Austin, Texas, told Reuters. “We saw leopards, that was incredible. Would we have come to South Africa if it wasn’t for the World Cup? Chris Dorsey and his friends began their three-week tour in Johannesburg, South Africa’s city of gold, before viewing wild life in Kruger, the country’s top game park.
Further up the West Coast are the villages of Paternoster, St Helena Bay, Elandsbaai and still further north the fishing town of Lamberts Bay. The Sandveld economy is based on wheat, and there are also large herds of cattle and sheep, as well as potato farms. Inland from the coast is the aptly-named Sandveld, a rather sandy and often dry stretch of land which has spring flowers which rival those of the more famous Namaqualand.
The sights and sounds of the bush will echo in your senses long after you have left them behind – and a little bit of African magic will always live on in your memory. The unique, spine-tingling experience of a night drive is not to be missed on your luxury South Africa safari holiday.
As the light dies and the incredible painted sunset skies of the African bush darken and fade, you can feel the bush closing in; and if you listen closely, you will hear the silence slowly giving way to the sounds of the night.
